Turkey nabs suspected terror financier

ANKARA, Turkey, Jan. 8 (UPI)
:

Turkish authorities Monday said they have completed an investigation following the arrest of a suspected al-Qaida operative in the southern city of Hatay.

Malek Charahili is suspected of funneling money to the international terror group through financial links in Europe and Iraq.

Charahili, a 27-year-old Tunisian, was arrested with a fake passport in August 2006 and remains in custody.

Prosecutors claim he received regular bank transfers of large sums from Bilal Soughir in Belgium and in turn sent the money to the account of slain al-Qaida-in-Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Zaman reported.
