US names Saudi terrorist slain in Iraq:
12/25/2006 - AFP - BAGHDAD - The US military yesterday identified a man its soldiers killed in western Iraq earlier this month as a Saudi "terrorist" and Al Qaeda operative who brought foreign fighters into the country.Posted on 25 December 2006 @ 14:38 GMTFahd Hilal Awidh Al Salifi Al Maqati Al Utaybi, also known as Numan or Fahd Al Saudi, was slain with three fellow militants on December 7 in the Thar Thar region, according to a statement from US headquarters.
The four had been in a car stopped during an American operation and had resisted attempts to detain them. US troops opened fire, killing all four men in the vehicle. Afterwards, an assault rifle and three pistols were found.
"Fahd Al Saudi previously operated in Yemen as a foreign fighter facilitator responsible for sending foreign fighters to Iraq," the statement said.
"He fled Yemen after Saudi and Yemeni authorities initiated investigations on his family and close associates due to indications he and his Yemeni-based group were planning external terrorist operations," it added.
